Schneepart celan

A few months before his death, Paul Celan described Schneepart as his 'strongest and boldest' book. Schneepart was the first publication from Paul Celan's literary remains. It came out in 1971. But it wasn't his first posthumous collection: Lichtzwang, the previous one, appeared not long after his death in April 1970, though every aspect of it apart from the final checking of proofs was attended to by Celan himself. A short while ago Patrick Kurp wrote a piece on Primo Levi's conflicted perspective on the work of Paul Celan. More recently, James Buchan at the Guardian's Book Blog discusses Ian Fairley's translation of Celan's Schneepart, and in the process, sheds light on the role of the darkness and obscurity that Levi saw in much of Celan's work.
